![]() Steve and Genny had four children and moved around in their early years as Steve perfected his skill as a general contractor building houses. They met at a local community dance and were married Jan. 2, 1963. It was during this time that Steve met the love of his life, Genny Gerein. Steve began working at age 17 on road construction and water services near Edmonton, eventually moving to Unity to work at the Sifto Salt Plant. In summer months, he would reflect on the boys sleeping in a wooden grain bin with evenings spent playing cards for matchsticks. Steve would tell stories of growing up in a large family, in the wintertime there was always a race to get upstairs for a bed or end up sleeping on the floor. Steve came from a family of 19 brothers and sisters and 3 half brothers and sisters. Steve and his siblings walked three miles a day to attend school at Abnott. ![]() Steve was raised on the farm where he would fondly tell stories of growing up, living off the land and being entertained by family and close neighbours. Stephen Thomas German, known as Steve to his family & friends was born on July 22, 1938, at the family farm, northeast of Luseland, Saskatchewan. In town he grew a large garden and had a greenhouse and orchard. He played the electric organ for years, often accompanied by his brother Jordon on banjo. He loved to dance, especially a good, fast polka. If Grandpa can say it…so, can we! Music was a big part of his life. Jacob spoke German, English and another colourful language, which the grandchildren picked up very quickly. ![]() After Clara's passing Jacob took up making rosaries and sold hundreds of them over the course of 15 years. They grain farmed and raised a large number of pigs on their farm south east of Wilkie. ![]() Jacob married Clara Ducherer on Apat Revenue, SK. As a small child he was a bit mischievous, as one time he and his brothers Frank and Jordon rode their new bicycles down the basement stairs, just to see if they could. Jacob was predeased by his parents Frank (1982) and Juliana (1989), wife Clara (1998), son Jake (1996), granddaughter Carrie (1998), great grandsons Jackson (2003), Ethan (2007).
